Exploring Delhi

Post breakfast, enjoy a fascinating exploration of Old Delhi. Drive past the Red Fort (closed Mondays), Shah Jahan's red-sandstone citadel, and the Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque, then take a memorable cycle-rickshaw ride through the winding lanes of Chandni Chowk. In New Delhi, drive past Rashtrapati Bhawan along the grand Rajpath to India Gate. Visit Humayun's Tomb, the first great example of Mughal architecture, built in 1565, and the 72-metre Qutab Minar with Delhi's famous un-corroded 4th-century Iron Pillar. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 03

Delhi → Agra

Overnight Agra

After breakfast, depart for Agra by surface and check in at the hotel. Visit Agra Fort, built in the 16th century and added to by three generations of Mughal emperors — a synthesis of military might and delicate interior detail, where Shah Jahan was later imprisoned by his son. Continue to the Itmad-ud-Daulah, the 'Baby Taj' — the first tomb in India built entirely of marble, commissioned by Empress Nur Jahan for her father Mir Gheyas Beg. Overnight in Agra.

Agra → Fatehpur Sikri → Jaipur

Early morning, visit the incomparable Taj Mahal at sunrise (closed Fridays) — a varying kaleidoscope of solitude, colour and mood, 22 years in the making and widely regarded as an earthly replica of paradise: 'a vision, a dream, a poem and a wonder'. Return for breakfast, then depart for Jaipur, en route visiting Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar the Great's exquisite red-sandstone city of 1569, abandoned soon after its creation. Continue to Jaipur and check in; the rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Jaipur.

Jaipur

After breakfast, drive to the magnificent Amber Fort, the ancient Kachhwaha capital. Built by Raja Man Singh in the early 17th century, this superb blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture rises above the old town in a succession of mighty gates, ornate halls, pavilions and gardens. Nearby, photograph the criss-crossing staircases of Panna Meena ka Kund, a 16th-century step well. In the afternoon, tour the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory, pause at the iconic Hawa Mahal, and wander Jaipur's vibrant bazaars. Overnight in Jaipur.

Jaipur → Ranthambore

Overnight Ranthambore

After breakfast, depart to Ranthambore by surface and check-in at the hotel. Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national parks in Northern India. Being considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today the Ranthambore National Park terrain is a major wildlife tourist attraction spot that has pulled the attention of many wildlife photographers and lovers.
